AWS Open Data Climate Datasets to CSV

The AWS Open Data Registry hosts petabytes of public climate data from NOAA, NASA, and research institutions — all freely accessible from S3 without an AWS account. NetCDF Studio lets you browse these datasets, select variables and a time range, and receive a clean CSV without writing a single line of Python or AWS CLI commands.

How It Works

01
Browse & Select

Browse the curated AWS climate catalog. Pick a dataset (e.g. NOAA GFS, NASA MERRA-2), variable, and time range. No S3 paths or bucket names to remember.

02
Download & Convert

NetCDF Studio fetches the file from the public S3 bucket and converts it — applying any optional correction modules in a single pass.

03
Download CSV

Your CSV is ready in your workspace — one row per grid cell per time step, with ISO 8601 timestamps. Opens in Excel, QGIS, Python and R without any transformation.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need an AWS account?
No. AWS Open Data datasets are publicly accessible without an account. NetCDF Studio handles the S3 access on your behalf — you select the dataset and the variables you need.
Which datasets are available?
NetCDF Studio exposes a curated list of climate-relevant archives from the AWS Open Data Registry, including NOAA GOES imagery, GFS forecasts, NASA MERRA-2 reanalysis, and GLDAS land surface data. The list is updated regularly as new climate datasets join the registry.
How is this different from ERA5 or IMDAA?
ERA5 and IMDAA are specific reanalysis products with their own access portals and credentialing. AWS Open Data is a broader registry hosting many different datasets (reanalysis, satellite, model output) from multiple agencies on a common infrastructure — no individual credentials are required for any of them.
Can I apply correction modules to AWS datasets?
Yes. All NetCDF Studio correction modules are available for AWS datasets — temperature unit conversion, radiation integration, FAO-56 evapotranspiration, wind speed normalisation, and more. Each module is optional and fully documented.
